Wave Camp 24

Bunyan Wave Camp - 14-22 September 2024

The Wave Camp is back for 2024! As the Westerlies build into Spring, the opportunities to fly high from the Canberra Gliding Club abound. Whether you want to bring your own aircraft as an independant operator, or come along for some instruction in wave flying, the club is happy to host.

Prior preparation is essential; this is not for a casual experience or muddling through. Wave soaring involves flying in an inherently hazardous, low oxygen, low temperature environment, often in demanding meteorological conditions. There are serious safety implications with respect to preparing the glider, equipment, navigation, radio and airspace - plus the pilot! Safety comes first, always, so pilots need to be aware of the risks and possible consequences, their emergency actions, and prepare accordingly. Visiting pilots should note that dual flights with qualified instructors may be required prior to wave flying in their own aircraft.

Register your interest for the opportunity to fly high above the Snowy-Monaro's in the strong smooth lift from the mountains.

Airfield Capacity

There is no hangar space available for visiting aircraft, but there will be a tie-down area for a maximum of 15 private gliders on the airfield, as well as parking for trailers.

Accommodation

There is bunk-bed accommodation available in the clubhouse, available on a first-in, best-dressed basis. This includes showers, kitchen, and living area, as well as outdoor BBQs. A nightly fee of $15 will be charged for those who wish to use this option to stay on the airfield overnight.

If you wish to bring a caravan or campervan, please get in touch with the club organisers prior to confirming your registration.

Registration Fee

A small registration fee is used to offset the club preparing tie-down areas, and provision of clubhouse facilities and supplies for daily use. This is set at $100 for visitors to the club, and is to be paid prior to 01 September to confirm your place at the camp.
